april...

april was busy busy. lots happened in a months time.

the boys started soccer.
april 12 whitney had her baby
april 17 our sweet little miss ayla was born
easter came and went
we adjusted to life with 4 kids
we are learning how to again live with sleep deprivation
learning again how to eat one handed
how to wipe ones rear end one handed with baby in other hand...
we are relearning all sorts of glorious things around here.
heres to having a family of 6... this was the best april ever.

ayla is such a good and sweet baby. she is loved by all, mostly by mya. burke loves to say he loves her but shows no interest in holding her. mya cant keep her hands off. she cant be more than 5 feet from her most of the time. its a little stressful but also so fun to see her completely in love with her baby sister. tegan loves to hold her and is actually very good at it. he is very sweet and rocks her back and forth when he holds her.
ayla decided to arrive early (37 weeks and 6 days), which i couldnt of been more grateful for. my back had started to kill me, making it hard to walk and not being able to walk with three small children created quite an issue.
things to remember about her birth:
contractions started wednesday night around 10.
we checked into the hospital around 12:20 am. dilated to a 4.5.  80% effaced.
i contracted for hours on end with almost no dilation. incredibly frustrating.
they wanted to send us home but the doctor said no way no how. i was dilated to a 6 and 80% effaced.
around 6 am i finally started to dilate.
6 am they finally believed that i was in labor.. happy day.
around 615 i was begging for an epidrual, lets be honest. i wanted one more like 3 am... thanks body for being lame and not dilating.
they gave me an intrathecal instead of a epidural. didnt work. score for me. actually i take that back. it did numb inside of me yet i could still feel every contraction and the pain of it all.. weird. but i couldn't feel when they checked me.
intrathecals are suppose to work quicker than epidurals and since i was going quickly, (yet had been there for 6+ hours once i started to dilated i was ready to go in a half hour) they thought that was the best option. bad idea docs.
i had horrible horrible back labor. first time ever. glad i could feel that pain. that was fun.
my water broke and it sounded like a shot gun went off. it was bizarre. it made chase and the nurse jump back. it even hit my toes when i was laying flat in the bed.
i pushed three rounds and she was out. hallelujah. holy painful.
she came out backwards. she was posterior. and thats why my back and tailbone hurt so bad for the last month. and why i didnt dilate yet was still in full blown out labor. and why they didnt believe me. and how exactly do they not know that she was flipped wrong. come on people. i would of enjoyed an epidural that worked hours and hours previous.
she was born at 7:04 am. she weighed 7lb 10oz 20.5 in. she had a lot of black hair. very dark coloring and was perfect. even when they put her on me all nasty and gross like.
she had troubles breathing. they brought in the NICU. took her off of me and away for what seemed like FOREVER. they didn't even weigh her or anything for an hour or so until they could get her breathing better.
we had to stay two days and nights to make sure she was okay.
mom and dad were in the waiting room and came in once she was breathing better.
we were up for 30 hours before we got to sleep. hello swollen eyes.
since was was born early, before 38 weeks, she had to get her foot pricked before every feeding for tests. even though she weighed 7 10 and had a solid double chin. if she would of been born one day later none of that would of happened. lame.

Oh, wow. That is an awful birth story! But she is such a beautiful baby! Congratulations Cortney! And seriously, how fun that your baby and Whitney's baby are so close in age!!
