minor surgery but to mommy its MAJOR...

well we are getting tubes tomorrow morning at 6:30 we arrive for little mr tegan to get all better! we are both quite excited, sad that it has reached this point, but very happy and hopefully that the outcome will be wonderful and his ear infections will subside! originally our appoint to meet with the ENT was tomorrow but after a long weekend of him crying and being up in pain all night.. once again he got no relief after the antibiotic... we called this morning and they were able to get us in. we ran a bunch of test on his ears and he has so much fluid behind his ears that his hearing has become impaired, something that obviously needs fixed, and his little eustachian tube is not able to drain all of the fluid because they believe it is being pinched off due to the amount of fluid behind his ear drum. we also learned today that antibiotics don't heal ear infections.. the point of the antibiotic is to reduce the swelling of the ear drum and once that swelling is gone it is suppose to allow for the tubes to drain.. well the reason why no antibiotic is working for him any more is because he has so much fluid behind his ear drum that no antibiotic has been strong enough to take down the amount of inflammation that is on his little ear drum which means that it cant drain and its constantly putting pressure on the ear drum causing the pain! so really the only way to relive our poor child is through tubes. but the good thing is that the tubes will fall out within the next 6 months to a year.. so my worry about water is not a problem.. the only thing he cant do is be submerged in water.. which who submerges their 9 month old! not us! so we are clear! he can play in water and all we have to do is put in a drop of medicine after a day in water and he should be good to go! and i guess only 1 out of 3 kids will have to have the tubes replaced because they still need them after the first ones have fallen out.. but i have a feeling that won't be us! or so i pray! haha.

this is why little kids have ear infections and adults dont... in tegans case his eustachian tube runs completely horizontal which allows for everything to run into it by accident causing the problems... as thier heads grow the tube starts to tilt which helps it drain and keep the unwanted out...

this is what they will do tomorrow... they make a slit in the ear drum, suck out all the fluid and flush in good clean water to completely clear it out and then they insert the little tube... and im not kidding its LITTLE! it was crazy that something that small can do anything!
so tomorrow morning at six thirty our little boy will be put to sleep for about thirty mins while this minor surgery occurs! mommy is a little freaked but daddy seems calm as can be! haha.. figures. actually when the doctor said i have an opening for tomorrow.. i was like NO! and chase was like we will take it.. so we took it.. i am excited but dont like the fact that my little 9 month old will be under anesthesia...
