solar eclipse...

we traveled to the cabin to watch the once in a lifetime eclipse with full totality (although i now hear that they aren't as rare as i once thought) but it was AWESOME. such a neat experience. i was stressed about the kids and them looking at the sun. dang social media and the horror stories it provides but other than that worry we loved every single second of it and we even got lucky and didnt have any traffic problems. the eclipse started about 10:10am. we could look up at it whenever we wanted to see moon moving slowly over the sun, then at 11:27am the moon completely covered up the sun. it was crazy. about 20 minutes before totality it started to become dusk and the bugs started to come out, the hawks started to fly over the lake to look for fish just like the do at night, and the lake went calm as if it was 10:00pm. it was crazy. when the moon covered the sun it dropped 22 degrees in a matter of seconds. in totality you were then able to take off your glasses and look at the pitch black moon with huge white rings around it and if you looked out to the horizon there was 360 degree sunsets/sunrises all the way around us. the full totality lasted 2 minutes and 32 seconds then the sun started to come back. it was crazy that even the smallest sliver of the sun showing lighted the sky back up and it started to get warm again. then it was completely over around noon. but the sun all day that day was HOT. it felt extra intense while we played on the lake and beach. it wasn't that hot out but it might as well of been sitting right on top of us it was so intense feeling. it was weird! since school was starting wednesday and the kids had meet the teacher tuesday night we went to the cabin sunday morning and left monday night, but it was easily worth the drive to see the full eclipse.
right before totality and completely totality.
during totality is was dark and cold!
