all their easter loot!...
this weekend entailed a lot of events, not only was it easter and conference, it was patio building weekend in the snow, rain, hail and wind. we enlisted the help of my family a few weeks ago to come down and help since it was their spring break, we spent all of last week getting things ready, getting everything rented, ordering the concrete truck and getting prepared so we would be able to knock out our patio in just 3 short days.
thursday was the day that it began, it was windy, 50 mph winds to be exact but cameron and chase were ready to go, thursday went great, we got it all dug out the dirt moved and the based moved in, the poor guys' eyes were red and swollen due to all the dirt in the air and they both had wind burn, but they were good sports and ready and excited for friday! friday we rented to compactor and made the forms, it started to look like it might rain so we were trying to move very quickly... we got the concrete truck ordered and on its way when it started getting really dark and cold... we were a little concerned but were just hoping that the storm would pass us like it had all day thursday. we got the concrete poured and we just started smoothing it out when the snow came... it snowed and snowed. hours and hours later our concrete was still wet and our poor patio looked hopeless as the water ran off it on not allowing it to cure, we just stared out the windows for hours occasionally going out to feel if it was getting hard... it finally stopped around midnight friday night. the boys ran outside to hurry and stamp, edge, and smooth out the concrete before it could cure. 2 am friday morning chase, cameron and jared were outside stamping our patio in probably 20 degree weather and 20 mph winds... i bet our neighbors loved us! right when they got done a blizzard came! it was blowing everything everywhere, we laid down some color that is suppose to soak into the concrete.. well that didnt really work out to well as the wind just picked it up in windtunnels and blew it everywhere! we finally went to bed to wake up in the morning and see about an inch of snow on the ground, our yard completely destroyed from the concrete truck, bobcat, dye and rain.. UGH! it was a horrible feeling. our fence was covered with red dye, we had trenches all over our yard that cam and chase had to make to try to divert the water from the patio. luckily it melted rather quickly and we checked on our patio, it finally hardened saturday afternoon allowing us to finally walk on it, its very brittle and frail... you must walk with ease on it or it will just flake away... LOVELY huh?! so now we are in a pickle of what to do next, we might just grind it down and make it look like a restaurant floor.. that could be cool, who knows..!! what a weekend though, it was lots of fun, extremely stressful, funny, hilarious, maddening and just life... what can you do about mother nature!... oh and our neighbors dog is pink...there white fluffy dog is pink because the wind blew our dye over the fence and all over there dogs.. good thing the other dog is black! SORRY!!
tegan loved the "tractor"
it was way to cold to let him outside to much so we set him
up his chair and he watched for hours out the window
everything almost all dug out...
right after we poured and it started snowing,
nothing we could do but stare and wanna cry..
2:22 a.m. just after they stamped the concrete and
laid the dye down... see the snow?! not good.
what it looks like now...

Oh you poor things. We had a patio making weekend too, but ours was not quite as dramatic as yours. We were laying pavers in the snow, but we didn't have concrete. That totally stinks for you guys. Hope you come up with a great way to make it all work. And it will be a great thing to talk about when you're outside enjoying the patio... "remember when it snowed and we stayed up until 2 am? wasn't that great?"
can you fix it at all?? so it wont flake off? thats halarious about the dog!!! hahah how did your neighbors react??
