floating rivers...

we have found a love for river floating this summer. it been a fun and nice way to stay cool. our first float was the scariest. we didn't know what to expect and we were far from prepared. we just kind of went with it, left the kids home, jumped in the car and went to try it out. it was too fun but too scary. we lost a paddleboard oar, broke a paddleboard leash, lisa almost kicked the can and i had more bruises than i thought possible but we all survived. we floated the top half of indian creek a few days later sans kids, much less scary and no major problems. the eggingtons joined us that time.

a few weeks ago we floated the boise river with some friends. we were halfway through the float when we stopped to let the kids do a little bridge jumping. everyone had jumped off once then started to go back up again. in order to get far enough out into the river you have to walk on the outside of the bridge. miss mya was following burke when she lost her footing about 8-10ft up and fell off the bridge. i was standing on the bridge and heard a scream, looked over and saw her laying on the boulders flat on her back, i couldnt get down to her fast enough. she hadn't gotten far enough out yet and fell on the boulder edge. by some miracle she didn't hit her head when she landed, she landed on her back, she had her lift jacket on and it have her a little padding in her fall. she must of slammed both of her legs down on the boulders, her left leg instantly looked broken to me and the other kind men that stopped what they were doing to help get her back up the cliff edge after having to float her down the river. thankfully it wasn't broken just bruised and contusions all over her left leg. her right leg had a few bruises, both of her arms had a few cuts and scratches, her left wrist was sore and instantly had a bruise on it. my friend called chase and he came to us very quickly helping get her into the truck and took her home. when she left we thought nothing was broken, just sore and feeling very grateful she was safe and okay! by the time the kids and i got home her foot was feeling very sore and painful. by the next morning she couldn't walk on it at all so i took her into the doctor. she broke a little bone in her right foot, a salter harris fracture on her 5th toe, and was told to use crutches and wear a boot. no weight for the first 10 days and then if it didn't hurt anymore she could start to walk on it with the boot on. well. crutches were not her thing. they were incredibly hard for her to use and she got sore very quickly. we also left to the cabin just a few days after and it was too hard to use them up there so we ditched them a few days early and she has been walking in the boot ever since.
after that we dared to go float another river again, we took the kids to float the top half of indian creek in their kayaks, ayla rode in the little raft with me and i only hit her in the head one time with the oar. mya stayed and hung out with brittney and logan. they did great in their kayaks! it was a little scary for burke, he fell off at the beginning of the rapids and didn't enjoy the ride down but after he got back on he enjoyed it and didnt fall again.
