for months chase and i have noticed that mya struggled to hear, at the beginning i thought it was more of a comprehension problem, or a i am going to just ignore you problem, than her actually not being able to hear. after months and months of her always saying "whatcha said" we decided to take her to an audiologist just to see what was going on. mostly because she is still harder to understand, you have to know her and know what she is saying to understand her completely, she seems to have of shown no progress in speaking for a very long time and since she is starting preschool in a few short months I didnt want her to have a hard time communicating with the teacher or the other kids. the doctor ran a bunch of test, most of them we have been through before with all the kids before they got tubes, and sure enough she literally couldn't hear. her left ear was at 60% hearing loss and her right ear was at 40% loss. poor girl, she said the reason her speech hasn't improved is because she cant hear any high frequency words or letters, which obviously if you cant hear it you cant learn to say it. so we now have fixed the situation and I am so excited to see the huge changes it will make for her! last thursday we got tubes put in her ears, there was too much fluid behind her ear drums causing the ear drum to not vibrate. so they drained all that gunk. put in tubes and took out her adenoids in hopes with those gone the fluid will actually be able to drain instead of build up behind the ear drum. and the goal with these being done is her hearing will resume and she will be good to go! she did amazing with the surgery. she never complained once. never cried in pain. never even really skipped a beat. slept all night, was still riding her bike and playing with the boys. and she REFUSED to drink her pain medicine so she was either really tough and suffered silently through it or it really just didnt bother her at all. which i could not be more grateful for. answer to my prayers for sure. she is far from a calm non dramatic child so i was having visions of the longest days of my life. i am so glad we got it figured out and hopefully she will regain her hearing soon!!
after the surgery she only wanted to sleep, which was funny because we were trying to prep her for them taking her away and into a strange room with all the doctors and we told her she was just going to take a nap and wake up back in our arms. well she told us a million times she wasn't tired and will absolutely not take a nap. turns out. she did and slept for hours that day too. i sure love that little girl. she is so much fun, her personality is the most trying but the most rewarding too. she is so sweet kind loving and caring.
